BeautySafe FAQ

BeautySafe is an online certification in salon and spa hygiene for Canadian beauty professionals. It is Canada’s only certification in protocols of infection control, safe cleaning, sterilization, and chemical practices for beauty professionals. BeautySafe incorporates health standards recognized across Canada to reduce the spread of viruses, bacterial infections, and communicable diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B & C, and COVID-19.

Yes. Though it is administered by the BeautyCouncil of Western Canada, BeautySafe is recognized nation-wide and is Canada’s only certification in protocols of infection control, safe cleaning, sterilization, and chemical practices for beauty professionals

While BeautySafe is not yet mandatory, clients and employers expect a BeautySafe certification to ensure their beauty professionals are experts in salon and spa hygiene and safety. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, BeautySafe is quickly becoming the standard in the industry. 

The Level 1 General Practices course can typically be completed in under two hours. Level 2 courses can typically be completed within one hour.

No. Courses can be completed at your own pace — feel free to take breaks between lessons and return later.

Not to worry — you can retake the tests after each lesson as many times as it takes to pass them, so long as you pass each test within a year of purchasing the course.

The courses are broken down into multiple lessons, each followed by a test. The lessons provide all the materials and information required to pass each test. You may review the lessons as needed.

Yes — BeautySafe courses consist of online self-study lessons and online tests.

After successfully completing the course, you will earn a certificate. You will immediately be issued a secure digital certificate by Accredible in a PDF format for printing. It can also be saved as a JPEG for your website or social media.

The digital certificate will be followed by a mailing including an official paper certificate and a window decal to display.
